Ethos
The prime concern of Sheila Harper is to promote a respectful and harmonious relationship between dog and owner and to encourage owners to increase their knowledge and experience. Our aim is to promote kind and humane dog training with emphasis on the underlying behavioural aspects. The welfare of animals is of paramount importance; through education dogs and other species in general will be better understood.

Sheila has many aims including:
  • living in harmony with dogs, engendering mutual respect and giving people the desire and responsibility to be considerate of both social groups
  • advancing knowledge of dogs, their behaviour, communication and training
  • furthering the understanding of the relationships between dogs and humans
  • understanding the differing cultures relating to dog ownership

Sheila hopes to promote the best possible practices in canine-human relationships, thereby advancing the general handling and well being of dogs.

Through the International Dog Behaviour and Training School it is envisaged that all those involved will also:
  • develop and extend their understanding of how dogs see the world and how they communicate with each other and with humans. It is hoped that they will use this knowledge to the benefit of dogs and humans alike.
  • gain a greater understanding of ways that a positive relationship between dogs and people can be developed.

The IDBTS offers students the opportunity to be concerned with the highest standards of welfare, handling and training of dogs. There is also the chance to contribute as a group in influencing the advancement of the highest levels of welfare.

 IDBTS Students

Educational opportunities include:
  • the chance to share ideas, information and knowledge with other students with varied experience
  • opportunities to research and develop new, humane training ideas and to play a part in the research into canine communication
  • opportunities to attend symposia given by international speakers and to be presented with the latest information
Through education along with the observation and understanding of canine communication, language and influence, students of the IDTS will be able to contribute to and excel at humane methods of training and handling

Sheila Harper Ltd. is privileged to have a unique insight into the canine species. The team’s philosophy is dog centred, encompassing kind, gentle methods with empathy for dog and owner.
