We know how much dogs love to use their noses, and their ability to find never ceases to amaze us. Take a glimpse into their world and enjoy their natural gifts in the company of other like-minded people and dogs.
Join us on this activity holiday in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and the beautiful environment of the Cannock Chase. Share pursuits that are closest to your dog’s nature, providing an outlet and an opportunity to engage in natural behaviour leading to satisfaction for both dog and owner.
Whether your dog is a begin
ner or specialist, young or old, large or small, behavioural issues or not, he will have the space, opportunity and understanding to participate and enjoy time with you. Learn an innovative, gentle and non-confrontational approach to understanding and working with your canine friend as a team.
Interests such as tracking and searching can be highly satisfying, boosting a dog’s self-esteem and can be a great confidence builder for owners too. Activities are tailor-made for the individual dog in which the key for being successful is all about quality and not quantity. Our main focus is not about performance but about how to recognise, acknowledge and respect their great achievements.
Topics include:
• Theoretical and practical sessions of different aspects of nosework such as tracking,
ID tracking, lost and found, searching, etc
• The importance of rewards; when to use them, what to use and why
• Nosework as a confidence builder and as a means to develop problem solving strategies.
It may not solve behavioural issues but can help to build the dog’s confidence giving him
an opportunity to learn for life
• Discussion of what can influence social relationships and learning in general,
increasing communication skills and building relationships
• Opportunities for social walks where activities learned can be used and practised in natural settings in
the presence of other dogs
Through working with dogs and others experienced in nosework Sheila and Winny have been able to find a perfect way for using simple activities as a tool to build confidence in dogs and to help them developing life skills that will enable them to make decisions in daily life.
Please note that although we advocate nosework as a way to help dogs with behavioural issues, this course is not designed for rehabilitating dogs or those who would be better in a one to one situation.
